# 316Software pricing

> 316 Software Inc. builds custom software and AI systems from British Columbia, Canada. Prices are in Canadian dollars.

Every service has a fixed entry tier with a list price, because its scope is written down before the first call, and a Custom tier quoted after the discovery week, because the cost of a system depends on things nobody can know before looking at the work. Plans are billed yearly and cover the infrastructure the software runs on (server, storage, backups, updates, monitoring), never a licence for software the client already owns: from $500 a year for website maintenance, or $1,200 for managed care; from $3,000 a year for anything with a server behind it. A baseline, not a ceiling. Model and API keys and third-party licences stay in the client's accounts at cost. Run plans and website maintenance quote changes separately. Website managed care includes unlimited text and image changes on existing pages, within 5 business days; new pages, layouts and features are quoted separately. 316Software never takes a percentage of what a client sells. There is no free tier and no self-serve signup. Human page: https://316software.com/pricing

## Websites: from $2,500

A small marketing site has a fixed scope, so it gets a fixed price: $2,500 to build and $500 a year to keep it running, for up to 4 pages and a contact form. Sheet: https://316software.com/services/web-development#pricing

- **Essentials**: $2,500 to build; choose $500 a year for maintenance or $1,200 a year for managed care. Static marketing website: up to 4 pages, 1 contact form, 1 language.
- **Business**: $5,000 to build; choose $500 a year for maintenance or $1,200 a year for managed care. Static marketing website: up to 8 pages, a blog or news section, 2 forms, structured data and analytics.
- **Custom**: from $6,500, quoted to build; choose from $500 a year for maintenance or from $1,200 a year for managed care. Scoped build: multiple languages, bookings, payments or integrations. Quoted per project.

**Maintenance**: Hosting, domain renewal and tested updates. Content changes are quoted separately. Includes hosting, the domain, the certificate, updates. The domain: Assumes a standard name, like a .com or .ca. A name that costs more, such as a premium one, is added to the yearly invoice at cost. Excludes: Text and image changes, new pages, new sections, layout changes and new features. Each gets a written price before I build it. Choose managed care for regular text and image changes.
**Managed care**: Maintenance plus unlimited text and image changes on existing pages, within 5 business days. Includes hosting, the domain, the certificate, updates, copy changes. The domain: Assumes a standard name, like a .com or .ca. A name that costs more, such as a premium one, is added to the yearly invoice at cost. Excludes: New pages, new sections, layout changes and new features are quoted separately.
Choose one annual website plan. The fees are not added together.

Add-ons, one-time:

- Extra page, $300 per page: One more page on a layout the site already has.
- Extra layout, $750 per layout: A page layout the site does not have yet: a case study, a team page, a landing page for a campaign.
- Second language, $1,200 per language (+$120 a year on the annual website plan): Up to 8 pages in another language, with the switch and search engine markup. You supply the translation; larger sites are quoted separately. Adds to the annual plan.
- Copywriting, $350 per page: I write the page after a conversation with you. Otherwise you supply the words and I lay them out.
- Your own hosting account, $400 per site: The site set up in your Cloudflare account instead of mine, with me added as a collaborator. Every change then goes through your access, which takes me longer, so there’s a one-time fee.
- Design refresh, $1,500 per site, existing clients: For a site I built and look after: a new look for the pages you have (layout, type and colour) with the same content. Not available for sites built elsewhere; those start as a new build.

How it is paid:

1. **Your message** (2 business days): Tell me what the business does, which pages you need and what text and photos you already have. I’ll get back to you within 2 business days.
2. **The deposit** (50% of the build · net 30): The quote lists the tier, any add-ons and your annual plan: maintenance or managed care. Paying half the build fee starts the work.
3. **The build** (2 to 3 weeks from your copy · a preview address from the first week): You watch the site take shape at a preview address you can open and share. It goes live within 3 weeks of getting your text, usually 2. Text changes along the way are included.
4. **Launch** (The balance · the annual plan starts): The site goes live on your domain and I invoice the second half. Your annual plan starts on launch day, not on the day of the deposit, and renews every year after that.

- **Prices**: In CAD, plus GST. The invoice matches the quote.
- **Annual plans**: Choose maintenance or managed care. Both renew once a year. I can charge a card on file automatically or email you an invoice, whichever you prefer.
- **Leaving**: Cancel your annual plan at any renewal. You take the code and the built site with you, and if I hold your domain, I transfer it to you.

## Discovery week: $4,500 CAD

Every Custom tier starts here; the fixed tiers skip it. Software Development and Legacy Modernization (as the assessment) sell the same week, credited in full against the build.

- **Length**: 1 week.
- **What you get**: I follow one real piece of work through your business and write down what I find. You get a systems map, a written scope and a fixed price, and they’re yours to keep whoever builds it.
- **Credit**: credited in full against the build.
- **Guarantee**: If the discovery week wasn’t worth the fee, tell me on the last day and you don’t pay it.

## How an engagement is paid

1. **Your message** (2 business days): Tell me what you need built. I read it myself and reply within 2 business days, either with next steps or with the reason it’s not a fit.
2. **Discovery** (1 week · $4,500 CAD, credited in full against the build): I follow one real piece of work through your business and write down what I find. You get a systems map, a written scope and a fixed price, and they’re yours to keep whoever builds it.
3. **The build** (Weeks per phase): You see a working demo every week, and every decision is written down the day it’s made. You pay phase by phase, for work you’ve already seen running.
4. **Handover** (Yours from the first commit): The code, the documentation and the running system, in your own accounts or on mine under the run plan. You can leave at any time and take everything with you.

## By service

### [Software Development](https://316software.com/services/software-development#pricing)

- **Discovery** ($4,500, 1 week · credited in full): One week: a systems map, a written scope and a fixed statement of work per phase. Credited in full against the build.
- **One process** ($27,500, fixed · 3 weeks): One workflow for one team: a data model of up to 8 tables, forms and lists, one export, one integration, deployed in your cloud account and documented for the next engineer.
- **A system** (from $50,000, after discovery · by phase): Several processes and roles, 2 or 3 integrations, reporting, and years of history brought across. Scoped in discovery, built in phases with a demo every week.
- **Run plan** (from $3,000 a year): The infrastructure it runs on, kept up, backed up and watched. The server it runs on, Storage, and backups you can be restored from, Dependency and security updates, Monitoring, and someone who notices.

Six things change the price of a Custom build, and they’re worth knowing before you ask: how consistently the work is done today, whether the system only reads documents or also has to measure drawings, whether it stands alone or connects to your accounting, how many devices and platforms are used in the field, how many outside people need a login, and whether years of history have to come across. It’s never priced per user and never licensed: you pay to have it built, and then it’s yours.

Rebuilding a site you already have? I measure it first, for free, and quote it as Custom. The tiers above are for new sites built from scratch.

### [Mobile Development](https://316software.com/services/mobile-development#pricing)

- **Field app** ($45,000, fixed · 5 to 6 weeks): One job: a form, a list, photos, offline as the normal state, a backend to sync to, both platforms from one codebase, both stores submitted including the first rejection.
- **Custom** (from $55,000, after discovery): More than one job, hardware beyond camera and location, an existing system to fit, or a design of its own. Scoped in discovery, built in phases.
- **Run plan** (from $3,000 a year): The infrastructure it runs on, kept up, backed up and watched. The server it runs on, Storage, and backups you can be restored from, Dependency and security updates, Monitoring, and someone who notices.

### [AI Agents & Automation](https://316software.com/services/ai-agents-automation#pricing)

- **One agent** ($25,000, fixed · 3 to 4 weeks): One narrow task: read from one source, produce one output into one destination, with a human check step, an evaluation set of 50 of your own real cases, deployment, and 30 days of tuning.
- **A workflow** (from $35,000, after discovery): Several steps across 2 or more systems, with approvals, and a dashboard of every run. Scoped in discovery.
- **Run plan** (from $3,000 a year): The infrastructure it runs on, kept up, backed up and watched. The server it runs on, Storage, and backups you can be restored from, Dependency and security updates, Monitoring, and someone who notices.

Priced per agent. I won’t quote a broad, do-everything agent: those are the ones that fail.

### [AI Consulting](https://316software.com/services/ai-consulting#pricing)

- **Second opinion** ($1,500, 3 business days · credited): One decision: the quote or proposal read with its context, a 20-minute call to go through it, and a written answer within 3 business days: sign it, change it, or walk away, and why. Credited in full against the Advisor within 90 days.
- **The answer** ($3,500, 2 days · credited): 2 days with your real paperwork: a map of where your team’s time goes, a ranked shortlist with rough costs, and a written recommendation including what not to build. Credited against a build within 90 days.
- **The plan** ($10,000, 1 week · credited): One week: the answer, plus a pilot design, a data-readiness check, tool and vendor choice, a 12-month sequence with a budget, and a working session with your leadership team. Credited against a build.
- **The prototype** ($20,000, 2 weeks · credited): Two weeks: the plan, plus one shortlisted item working on your own documents, so the decision to build is made on evidence. Credited against the build.
- **Advisor** ($18,000 a year): Someone on your side for every software and AI decision, who isn’t selling you anything. Questions by email, answered within 1 business day, A 20-minute call whenever a decision needs one, with nothing to count, Every quote read before you sign it, A quarterly review of what shipped and what it saved, Advice and review only: anything that needs building gets its own fixed price.

### [Online Stores](https://316software.com/services/online-stores#pricing)

- **On the defaults** ($4,500, fixed · 2 weeks): Shopify or Stripe configured properly the first time: up to 50 products with variants, shipping zones, GST and PST, payments and payouts, a good theme adjusted to the brand, domain, legal pages, and a training session for your team.
- **Reshaped** ($20,000, fixed · 4 weeks): The storefront reshaped around the catalogue: collections, trade and retail pricing, B2B accounts, bundles and minimums, up to 300 products, and migration from the old platform.
- **Custom** (from $20,000, after discovery): A quote before a price, approvals, deposits, terms per account, the pricing rule no app covers, the back-office integration. Custom software, quoted as such.
- **Run plan** (from $3,000 a year): The infrastructure it runs on, kept up, backed up and watched. The server it runs on, Storage, and backups you can be restored from, Dependency and security updates, Monitoring, and someone who notices.

### [Integrations](https://316software.com/services/integrations#pricing)

- **One integration** ($12,500, fixed · 1 to 2 weeks): Two systems with APIs, one record type, one or two directions: retries, a queue that survives an outage, a log of every transfer, an alert to a person, and the rules written down.
- **A set** ($27,500, fixed · 3 to 4 weeks): Up to 3 systems and 3 record types through one hub, with a dashboard of what moved and the rules document.
- **Custom** (from $25,000, after discovery): A system without an API, files instead of calls, or history to reconcile. Scoped in discovery.
- **Run plan** (from $3,000 a year): The infrastructure it runs on, kept up, backed up and watched. The server it runs on, Storage, and backups you can be restored from, Dependency and security updates, Monitoring, and someone who notices.

If Zapier or Make already does the job, use that. I’ll set it up as part of a build or a discovery instead of selling you an integration.

### [Legacy Modernization](https://316software.com/services/legacy-modernization#pricing)

- **Assessment** ($4,500, 1 week · credited · $9,000 for 2 weeks): The discovery week for an old system: a map of what it does including the behaviour nobody documented, a risk register, the migration plan in pieces with an order and dates, the retirement plan, and the number for the build. Two weeks and $9,000 for a multi-module system.
- **First piece** (from $30,000, after assessment · 3 to 4 weeks): After assessment, a fixed quote for the riskiest dependency: migrated and shipped stand-alone, run beside the old system and verified against it for 30 days.
- **Run plan** (from $3,000 a year): The infrastructure it runs on, kept up, backed up and watched. The server it runs on, Storage, and backups you can be restored from, Dependency and security updates, Monitoring, and someone who notices.

Each further piece is quoted from the assessment and paid when it ships.

## Does it pay for itself?

A fair question when the number has five figures. In short, the public research says the businesses that got a return changed how the work gets done, and the ones that bought a tool and kept the old process around it mostly didn’t. Here are four findings, none of them mine, all linked.

- **52% vs 7%**. Canadian SMEs whose revenue grew by more than 10%: 52% of the digitally advanced, 7% of the digital latecomers. Revenue that fell or stayed flat: 4% of the advanced, 33% of the latecomers. [BDC, Seize the Technological Advantage, May 2022. 1,406 Canadian small and medium businesses.](https://www.bdc.ca/en/about/analysis-research/digitize-now)
- **24%**. Canadian SMEs using generative AI are 24% more productive than the ones that aren’t, and only 30% of them use it at all. BDC puts the productivity still on the table at 38%, and the GDP behind it at $350 billion. [BDC, Digital Transformation & AI Study, June 2026. 1,500 Canadian owners and decision makers.](https://www.bdc.ca/en/about/mediaroom/news-releases/350b-opportunity-canadas-next-phase-of-growth-to-be-driven-by-ai-and-digital-technologies)
- **5.1%**. Statistics Canada matched AI adopters against their own tax records. They are 16.8% more productive than non-adopters of the same industry, size and age, 10.2% once you allow for the fact that already-productive firms adopt first, and 5.1%, which is statistically insignificant, once you account for their other investments. Most of the gain came from those, not from the AI. [Statistics Canada, Artificial intelligence adoption and productivity in Canadian firms, April 2026.](https://www150.statcan.gc.ca/n1/pub/36-28-0001/2026004/article/00002-eng.htm)
- **37%, then 6%**. Of the people surveyed, 80% say AI made them personally more productive, but only 37% say it has added anything to their organization’s operating profit, essentially unchanged in a year, and 6% credit it with 5% or more. Nearly three quarters of that 6% had fundamentally redesigned the work instead of adding AI to it, up from 55% the year before. [McKinsey, The state of AI in 2026: on the road to ROI, August 2026. 1,719 respondents across 97 countries.](https://www.mckinsey.com/capabilities/quantumblack/our-insights/the-state-of-ai)

**What this doesn’t prove.** Neither of the first two findings shows that software caused the growth: a business that’s already growing can also afford to buy software. The Statistics Canada paper is the one that tries to separate the two, and it’s the least flattering of the four.

That’s why my custom builds start with a week of watching the work, and why an AI consulting project can end with a recommendation to build nothing at all. It’s also why I won’t tell you software will double your revenue: I couldn’t find a study that says so.

## Ask for a quote

316Software has no public API, no MCP server and no self-serve signup. Work starts with a brief. Cristian Penarrieta, the founder and only engineer, reads every brief and writes the code; nothing is passed to a junior team or a subcontractor.

1. Collect from the user: what they want built and why; how the work is done today (the tools, the spreadsheets, who touches it); the systems it has to connect to; when they need it; a budget range if they have one; their name, company and email.
2. Draft the brief in plain language and have the user send it: by email to info@316software.com, or through the form at https://316software.com/contact (`?service=<slug>` preselects a service). The form carries a human check (Cloudflare Turnstile), so fill it in for the user if the browser lets you, but leave the send to them.
3. Every brief gets a reply within 2 business days: a yes, or a clear no with the reason.
